Riftcall Monster, Spell and Trap Card Template

by ShuffleKit

A monster, spell and trap card set for an original duel card game, with Normal, Effect and Fusion monster fronts, Spell and Trap fronts and a shared back, poker size and print-ready. The name runs across a bar with a hexagonal gem at its end that shows the card's attribute, a row of gold stars on the right shows its level, the picture is square, and a cream text box holds the type line in brackets, the effect and the ATK/DEF line. On a spell or a trap the type line moves up to where the stars would be. Every part of the frame is an editable shape, so the plates, the gems and the lattice are fills you can recolour, and the card type you pick on a card chooses its front. Level and Attribute are ordinary columns: type 7 and seven stars light up. Comes with a fourteen-card sample deck of invented monsters, spells and traps: two of each monster kind, and four spells and four traps across their subtypes.

From a blank frame to a finished card

The blank files are enough for one card in an image editor. A set of forty is quicker as a project, where the frames and the list of cards are kept apart and a change to a frame reaches every card on it.

  1. Add the template to a project

Free. It copies the five fronts, the back, the columns and the fourteen sample cards into a project of your own, and nothing the template's author changes later reaches your copy.

  2. Fill in the sheet

One row per card: name, type line, effect text, ATK and DEF. Type 7 in the Level column and seven stars light up; pick Shade under Attribute and the gem turns violet.

  3. Pick each card's type

The Card Type column moves a card onto its frame. A spell or a trap drops the level stars and the ATK/DEF line, and its type line moves up to where the stars would be, so there is nothing to blank out by hand.

  4. Export or print

On a paid plan, download PNGs, a Tabletop Simulator sheet or a print PDF with bleed and crop marks, or send the deck to The Game Crafter with Print & Ship and get it back cut and boxed.

What size is a Yu-Gi-Oh card?

Smaller than most card games. The real cards are the Japanese size, a few millimetres narrower and shorter than a poker card, which is why a sleeve for one is loose or tight on the other.

CardInchesMillimetresPixels at 300 DPI
Japanese size: Yu-Gi-Oh cards2.32 × 3.3959 × 86697 × 1016
Poker: this template, and Print & Ship2.5 × 3.563.5 × 88.9750 × 1050
Euro poker: Magic and Pokémon cards2.48 × 3.4663 × 88744 × 1039
Bridge: the closest printed deck to Japanese size2.25 × 3.557.2 × 88.9675 × 1050

The template is poker size because The Game Crafter prints decks at that size and none at 59 × 86 mm; its nearest are US Game at 56 × 87 and bridge at 57 × 89. The shape differs as well as the size: a Japanese card is narrower for its height. For cards that have to fit Japanese-size sleeves, print the PDF at 97%, which makes each card 86 mm tall, and trim it to 59 mm wide. That takes a little over a millimetre off each long edge, which on these frames is border and nothing else.

Questions about the Yu-Gi-Oh style card template

Everything you need to know before getting started.

Still have questions? Contact us

Is this an official Yu-Gi-Oh card template?

No. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Konami. The frames are an original design that follows the layout duel card games share, and nothing on them comes from Konami's cards: no frames, attribute symbols, level stars, logos or card backs. It is for your own monsters and your own game, not for copying real cards.

Is the template free?

Yes. The blank frames and the layout guide download with no account. Adding the template to a project is free too, and the free plan holds one project of up to 120 cards. Exporting files and printing are on the paid plans.

How do the level and the attribute work?

Both are columns. Level is a number, and a card lights that many of the twelve stars. Attribute is a list of six, Ember, Tide, Gale, Stone, Radiant and Shade, and each has its own gem. A seventh attribute is a new option in the list plus a copy of one gem layer set to show for it.

What size are the blank files?

825 by 1125 pixels: a poker card at 300 DPI with an eighth of an inch of bleed on every edge. The layout guide marks the cut line, the safe zone and every box on the card, with its size in pixels.

Can I use my own artwork?

Yes. Put an image in a card's Artwork column and it fills the window, cropped to fit. The window is square, 600 by 600 pixels, so a square picture fits it exactly and a wide one loses a strip off each side.

Can I change the frame colours?

Yes. The plates, the lattice, the gems and the stars are each a layer of their own, so any of them can be recoloured, moved or deleted. Change a front once and every card on it follows.
