Squintle Face Guessing Game Template

by ShuffleKit

A printable face-guessing game template for your own photos: a character card with a picture, a name and six traits to ask about, and a card back. Put in photos of your family, your class or your friends, type each person's name, and fill in the traits the questions are about: colour, ears, pattern, hat, glasses and scarf, or traits of your own. Print the deck three times. Each player lays out one copy face up and turns faces down as the answers rule them out, and the third copy is the pile each player draws a secret character from. Poker size (2.5 × 3.5 in), nine cards to a sheet of Letter or A4. Comes with 24 sample characters to swap for your own photos, cartoon animals from a fox in a bobble hat to a dalmatian in a beret.

From your photos to a game on the table

Every character is a row in a sheet: a name, a photo and six traits. Put your own people in, and the cards, the questions and the mystery pile all come from those rows.

  1. Add the template to a project

Free. It copies the character card, the back and the 24 sample characters into a project of your own, so you can see a whole deck before you change anything.

  2. Put in your own photos

Type your people's names over the sample names and name each photo the same way, such as Grandma.jpg. Add images by file name… on the Photo column puts the whole folder on the cards in one go, with Replace pictures that are already there ticked to swap out the animals.

  3. Pick everyone's traits

Choose each person's answer for every trait. Rename a trait to one that tells your people apart, Beard or Earrings, and change its label on the design once; every card follows. A trait left empty hides its tag.

  4. Print three copies

On Hobby and up, export a print PDF and print it three times, two-sided so every card has its back. One copy for each player to lay out, and one to shuffle into the mystery pile.

How many cards to print

Each player needs every character in front of them, and the secret characters are drawn from a copy of their own. With 24 characters that is three copies of the deck.

PartCopies of the deckCardsSheets of Letter or A4
Player one's board1243
Player two's board1243
Mystery pile1243
Total3729, or 8 with the deck's Copies set to 3

The two boards can stay uncut: lay a player's three sheets side by side and cover each face you rule out with a coin or a button. Only the mystery pile has to be cut, and printed with its backs so nobody can see through the pile. A deck of 12 or 16 makes a quicker game for young children.

Questions about the Guess Who style template

Everything you need to know before getting started.

Still have questions? Contact us

Is this an official Guess Who template?

No. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hasbro. Squintle is an original design for the same kind of game, made to be filled with your own photos, and nothing on it comes from Hasbro's game: no board, frame, characters, names or logo.

Can I make a custom game with photos of my family or my class?

Yes, that is what it is for. Each card has a Photo column. Name your photo files after the people in them, type the same names over the sample names, and Add images by file name… on the Photo column puts each photo on its card; tick Replace pictures that are already there so the sample animals go. A square photo of a face looking at the camera works best: the picture window is square and crops to fill.

How do you play it on paper?

Print the deck three times. Each player lays out one copy face up where the other cannot see it, and draws a secret character from the third copy, shuffled face down. Take turns asking yes-or-no questions about the other player's character and turn face down every card the answer rules out. The first to name the other's character wins the round.

Can I change the traits on the cards?

Yes. Each trait is a column with its own list of answers. Rename Ears to Hair and give it the answers Short, Long and Curly, then change the tag's label on the design once, and every card follows. A trait you leave empty hides its tag, so a deck can use fewer than six.

Is it free, and can I print it at home?

Adding the template and filling it with your own photos is free, and the free plan holds one project of up to 120 cards. A print PDF, nine cards to a sheet of Letter or A4 with the backs lined up for two-sided printing, comes with the Hobby plan. Print it at actual size on card stock.

Guess Who? is a trademark of Hasbro. ShuffleKit is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hasbro, and the Squintle cards on this page are an original design that contains none of Hasbro's art, characters, boards or logos.
