Magic item cards and monster cards for a tabletop roleplaying game, cut to poker size and print-ready. Every card is an iron-bound strongbox: warm leather inside a riveted brass band with a guard on every corner, the name engraved on a screwed-on plaque, the picture in a wide window, and a strap across its foot carrying the type line. An item's strap is enamelled in its rarity's colour, from pewter Common through green, blue and violet to amber Legendary and crimson Artifact, with a cut gem to match, and the Rarity column picks the front. A monster is the same box in iron on dark hide, with plates for its attack bonus, Armor Class and hit points and a wax seal with the XP it is worth. Items and monsters get backs of their own, a brass lock and a set of claw marks, so the two decks stay apart face down. Comes with a ten-card sample deck: one item of each rarity and four monsters, all original.

Use this template free

From campaign notes to a deck on the table

The print sheet covers a handful of handouts written in pen. A campaign's worth of loot and a bestiary to go with it are quicker typed, one card to a row.

Add the template to a project
Free. It copies the six item designs, the monster design, both backs, the columns and a ten-card sample deck, six items and four monsters, into a project of your own.
Type your items and monsters into the sheet
One row per card. An item needs a name, a type line, a rarity and its rules. A monster needs its type line and stat block, with its attack bonus, Armor Class, hit points and XP in columns of their own. Set Card Type to Monster and the card moves to the monster design.
Add the pictures
Put your own art in each card's Artwork cell. The window is 3:2, so a picture of another shape is cropped around its middle to fit, and the sample cards' paintings can stay until yours are ready.
Print it or play it
On a paid plan, download a print PDF with bleed and crop marks, or order the deck from The Game Crafter with Print & Ship. Items and monsters print with different backs, so the loot pile and the monster pile stay apart.

What size are the cards?

The template is poker size, the size of a deck of playing cards, so the sleeves, card boxes and printers made for poker cards all fit a deck made here.

The print sheets put nine cards on a page of US Letter or A4 at their real size, 3 across and 3 down, with crop marks in the margin. Euro poker is half a millimetre smaller each way than poker, so a deck printed at either size mixes into the other without standing out.

Prefer a blank file?

Poker size. The print sheets are nine cards a page at actual size with crop marks, items across the six rarities and then monsters, each followed by a page of backs. The single cards are 825 × 1125 at 300 DPI with an eighth of an inch of bleed, and the two guides mark the cut line, the safe zone and every box on an item card and a monster card. No account needed.

Is this an official Dungeons & Dragons template?

No. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast. The cards are an original design that follows the layout roleplaying games use for item and monster cards, and nothing on them comes from that game's books or card decks: no logo, art, text or card design. Every sample item and monster is our own.

Are the blank cards free to print?

Yes, with no account: the print sheet in US Letter or A4, and each blank card on its own. The template costs nothing to add to a project either, where the free plan's one project holds up to 120 cards, enough to try it on a session's loot. A longer deck, exporting files and Print & Ship are on the paid plans.

How does an item's rarity change the card?

The Rarity column picks the strap under the picture and the gem set in it: pewter and quartz for Common, green for Uncommon, blue for Rare, violet for Very Rare, amber for Legendary and crimson for Artifact. The word printed on the strap comes from the same cell, so the colour and the word always agree.

What goes in Attack, Defense, Health and Points on a monster card?

Attack is its attack bonus, printed as +5 TO HIT. Defense is its Armor Class and Health its hit points, each on a plate of its own. Points is the XP it is worth, printed on a wax seal, and leaving it empty takes the seal off. The rest of the stat block, from speed and senses to each action, goes in Description.

Can I use it for a game that isn't D&D?

Yes. The columns have plain names, and every label on the designs can be edited or removed, TO HIT, AC and HP included, so the same cards suit another roleplaying system or a dungeon crawl of your own.

Can I import my items and monsters from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Import a CSV or a Google Sheet with one card per row and a column for each field, and each row becomes a card on the right design. Importing the same sheet again after editing it updates the cards instead of adding them twice.
